And our goal is to set up each instrument to unlock its full potential so that the user feels more inspired and more confident with a guitar that sounds and feels better than an unoptimized one. Setting up your gig-ready guitar is done in under an hour in our shop.
One of the first things we check is the neck’s straightness—specifically looking for any gap or dip in the middle from the strings.
We adjust the truss rod to set the neck relief, ensuring it has the right amount of bow to counter string tension and play cleanly when tuned.
If needed, we level the frets to each other.
Then we polish the frets with a crowning tool to make sure they’re even and smooth across the neck.
We clean and oil the fretboard (if unfinished wood) to hydrate the wood and remove any built-up grime—keeping it smooth, fast, and looking great.
Next, we set the string height to match the fingerboard’s radius. This ensures comfortable playability across all strings, minimizes fret buzz, and keeps the guitar feeling consistent whether you’re playing chords or leads.
We adjust the intonation so each note rings true up and down the fretboard—making sure your guitar stays in tune, even when playing higher up the neck.
Finally, we set the pickup height for balanced volume across all strings and to bring out the guitar’s full tonal character.
Sound check. We do a final check for fret buzz and test string bends to make sure there are no dead spots or fret outs—ensuring your guitar plays clean from low to high.
